Finished Project

I really like the way this one turned out. These are not your typical baby blanket colors, but I think that is why I like it so much. This one was also given as a gift. A very sweet lady at church is expecting her second son. She said that the nursery would be orange and earth tones so this is what I came up with. She was so touched by the gift. She told me that this was the first blanket anyone had ever given her and it would always be special to her. That made me feel so good. I really think a lot about the person I make the blanket for while I am making it, wondering whether or not they will like it, so it was so nice to hear how much she liked it.

Hats, Hats, Hats

A friend from church found these patterns for baby hats and asked me to make them for her. I had not made hats before because I thought that they were much harder than they really were. They were really easy to make. I think I may make some more for my Etsy store.

Finished Project

I finished this baby blanket as a gift for my neighbor. It is super soft and I love the colors. I think it turned out nice, but the center is a little twisted and I was not happy with that.

I recently finished this baby blanket and gifted it to Katie's teacher. I had been working on it for one of the 5 ladies I know that are/were expecting a little one. I had just finished it when Katie's teacher found out that she is going to have a little girl so Katie happily gave it to her. She seemed to like it so that made me happy.

Finished Baby Blanket

I just finished this baby blanket. I am a little worried that it is not as big as I would have liked it to be, but I think it will be okay. I will be gifting this blanket to a lady from my church.

Finished Project!!

When I got my scarf yarn back out in January, I found that I had quite a bit of Simply Soft yarn. I decided that I was going to make something for Kurt. I had not made him anything in all the years that I have been knitting and crocheting so I figured it was time.

Here is the finished product. It is not a huge blanket. Just the right size for one person to cover with but I like it. I think for my first big project it turned out pretty good. It took me a while to crochet all the squares, but I worked on other projects at the same time so all my time was not devoted to just this project. I crocheted the squares together and put the border on while Kurt was at work last week so he would not see me working on it. I think he was surprised that I had made it for him and he likes it.

Strike a pose!!

Meet my models!!
I asked Kurt to model one of my scarves so I could put the pictures on my Etsy store. He is the exact opposite of Katie, who usually models my scarves for me. He wanted to know if his face would be shown because he DIDN'T want it shown whereas Katie was upset that her's wouldn't be seen. Doesn't he look thrilled to be a model. LOL

More Finished Projects!

I have been very pleased with my Etsy store. I actually sold two items very quickly (within two weeks of opening my store) and then sold two set of coasters to friends I graduated high school with!!! I could not have been more pleased to have these sales so soon after opening my store. I wasn't expecting to sell anything for at least a couple of months. God is so good!!
I just completed an order for another friend from high school for 12 dish cloths. This was an awesome order!! I love when I get orders for something because then I work faster trying to get it done.

It had been about 15 months since I had knitted anything. Remember, last year all I did was crochet gifts for Christmas--no knitting. I had boxed up all my scarf yarn and put it away in a spare closet and forgot about it while buying up all the cotton yarn for my dish cloths. Well--I got out my scarf yarn and sorted through it. I really had a lot more than I remembered having. It was like getting a gift. Then I got my knitting needles down and knitted a scarf. It felt so good to be knitting again after such a long time of only crocheting.

My New Store!!

As some of you know, I have been using all the things that I crochet or knit over the year for Christmas gifts. After seeing how much I had completed in a year my husband mentioned to me that I might try to sell some of my things. Then I found out about Etsy. It is a fabulous online store for all things handmade. They have some really beautiful things there. Many great gift ideas.
So, I decided to take a chance and see what I could do. I am starting out with mostly dishcloths. The reason for that--I have so much yarn stashed away from last year!! I am also hoping to make some more baby blankets. I really did enjoy making them and was happy with the finished product.
I will also take custom orders. If you have a baby shower, house warming party, or wedding to attend and are looking for a great handmade gift let me know and we can work something out. You can check out my store by clicking any of the items on the sidebar.

This was the last of the baby blankets I needed to make. This one is for my sister. I finished it in November but didn't want to post a picture of it until I gave it to her just in case she happened to visit my blog ; ).
Now I am finishing up the last of my dish clothes and then I will start a new venture. More on that later.
Blessings to all this Christmas season.
Yarn Used: Bernat Baby Coordinates (I used a double strand.)

This is my second baby blanket. I finished it a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed this project much better than my first. There are 99 of the squares stitched together in this blanket. I really didn't mind stitching it together and really like how it turned out. I am gifting this one to my cousin who is expecting. I can't wait to give it to her.
Yarn Used: Caron Simply Soft Eco
Colors: Baby Blush, White, and Lilac Bud

I finally finished my first crocheted baby blanket. Well, actually I finished it several weeks ago and am just now getting a chance to post about it.
I really did not enjoy this as my first "big" project because it was 146 stitches across and very time I did a white row I had to count the stitches to make sure that I still had 146. Not all that fun.
But I do like the finished product and am excited about gifting it to my sister-in-law.

Katie's Craft Corner

Katie has been working on some Perler Bead crafts. We started making these bead designs last year to take to the craft fair. Then we sent the ones we had left to family for Christmas. Katie enjoys working on this craft and we have an order for some snowmen and candy canes so she has been working hard. These are just a few of what she has made over the last few days. Of course, I get to do the ironing and then I will glue magnets on the back.

This week I took a break from the baby blanket that I have been working on. I didn't feel like I was accomplishing much since I still don't have a finished project. So on Monday I decided to work on some dish clothes. As I said before, these will be Christmas gifts for family, friends, and the girls teachers. My list keeps growing. I took a very long break from crocheting from April to August, now I have a lot of work to do. I am not unhappy with my progress. I completed 9 dish clothes this week. Gotta go--more work to do!!

This is my current project. A baby blanket.
It is quite obvious from my previous post that I usually stick to small projects. I just like the satisfaction of starting a project and in a couple hours having it finished.
While we were in South Dakota recently I was asked if I could make my niece a baby blanket. I was not sure that I could tackle such a "large" project. Thank goodness I wasn't asked to make a full size blanket!! LOL
But I got home from visiting and decided that being asked to do it might just have been the motivation I needed to venture out to bigger projects. I went out and bought a book with many different patterns, decided on a pattern, bought the yarn and got started. I started it just a week ago but I have not devoted much time to it. So this is about as far as I have gotten. I am looking forward to the finished project. I already have the next pattern picked out, which is good since I have two family members who are expecting. I can't wait to give them as gifts!!

I have been working on some projects for Christmas gifts for my family in PA, OH, and SD. The past couple of years everyone has received scarves that I knitted. This year I decided to teach myself (with the help of the internet and a friend from church, thanks Jan) how to crochet. My Aunt Kathy is an inspiration to me. She makes beautiful projects.
Anyway, I started out making dish clothes. Then decided to add some pot holders. Then I wanted to do some round projects so decided to do some coasters, doilies, and wash clothes. When I went to visit family in PA in March I took a large plastic container full of finished projects with me for my Aunt to hold until Christmas at which point she can distribute the gifts. She is so sweet to store them for me and then I won't have to worry about the cost of shipping them.
I like crocheting and knitting because I can be creative. I can choose the color of yarn, the project, the stitch, the size project. There are endless possibilities to the things you can create with a little time and effort. I am making a separate post about my current project, but I look forward to sharing future projects.

Fun Craft Day!!

This is what our kitchen window looked like yesterday. We made these in December just before Christmas. They are so faded. But we had so much fun making them that we didn't want to take them down.

But yesterday we decided to do some new things to put up on the window.

So this is what our window looks like now.

I absolutely love, love this yarn. The Paton's Carmen is soooooo soft and silky. I just love it. However, I find it just a little bit difficult to knit by itself, so I pair it with the Caron Simply Soft and it is better to handle. The scarves that I make with it turn out just great. I have made a few of these and they usually are a big hit. People are always surprised by the softness.

Getting Ready for the Craft Bazaar

We have been very busy these last few months making crafts. I have been knitting scarves and making children's beaded bracelets and the children have been helping to make magnets. Here are a few pictures of what we have been spending every spare moment making. Of course the magnets are just a sampling of what we have finished, we have about 300 of them completed.
